Healthy Tips for Kids Entering Preschool
Posted by Darlene Barnwell on Aug 20, 2015 4:39:00 PM
Whether your child is entering preschool for the first time or returning after a fun summer break, it’s important to start the year off right. Addressing any medical concerns and scheduling routine health appointments before the school year begins may ensure that your child has a happy and productive school year. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for a healthy child entering preschool.
Visit the Pediatrician
While many childhood diseases are not serious, it’s a good idea to make a well-visit appointment with your child’s pediatrician to discuss the risks and prevention methods. Your child’s pediatrician can perform screenings and alert you to any vision or hearing concerns. The pediatrician will also make sure that vaccinations are up to date and provide valuable tips for staying healthy, all year long.
Visit the Dentist
If your child has never visited a dentist, the summer before entering preschool is a great time to schedule an appointment. Many children loose their first tooth during the preschool years. A pediatric dentist will examine your child’s mouth and scope out any potential problems. They will also talk with your child about healthy habits, like brushing teeth and flossing.
Visit the Eye Doctor
Some parents may wait for their child to express an issue with their vision before scheduling an appointment with an optometrist. According to a national study, one of every four children has a vision problem. The eyes are just as important to care for as are the ears when it comes to providing your child with all the tools he or she needs for a successful preschool year.
Talk About Staying Healthy
Take the time to talk with your child about staying healthy when it’s time to begin preschool. Discuss the importance of getting plenty of sleep and a healthy breakfast. Demonstrating good hygene habits like hand-washing and covering your mouth when sneezing or coughing is another way you can teach your child to stay healthy.
Entering preschool season is exciting. Make the most of it by following these back to school activities for preschool so that your child stays healthy during this busy time.

Infant childcare, the power sign language
Posted on 10–14–2015 | Michael Thompson Ph.D
The world around your child is full of visual and auditory stimuli. The spoken word is first a modeled behavior. Parents are encouraged to offer a rich environment of language to stimulate early language development. Even before your child can speak they can communicate with the use of sign language.
At Kids R Kids Silverado Ranch we are proud to offer our infant / toddler sign language program to begin the process of communication.

How to Overcome Shyness for Preschoolers
Posted on 09–11–2015 | KRK International
The transition to preschool can be intimidating for both you and your child. Preparing for preschool is especially daunting for parents when also asking how to overcome shyness for a child. The good
news is, most children adapt quite well to preschool, even if they are shy. There are several steps that you can take to prepare your shy child for a successful preschool experience.
Join a Playgroup
Before starting preschool, find a local playgroup to join. Exposing your child to new friends and experiences, while you are there to assist, will help her develop social skills in a safe, comfortable environment.
Develop a Routine
Talk to your child about preschool and allow her to share her fears. Walk through the daily schedule so that she knows what to expect and begin practicing your at-home routine a few weeks before preschool begins. Most preschools will allow you to bring your child in prior to the first day of school. Feeling familiar with the preschool environment will help your child adapt.
Talk to your child’s teacher
Before preschool begins, talk to your child’s teacher and discuss any concerns that you might have about her fitting in. Being shy is quite common among preschoolers and your child’s teacher can provide preparation tips and assist with the transition.

Don’t throw good money at a bad education
Posted on 08–31–2015 | Michael Thompson Ph.D
The success rate of public school educational systems across the country is dismal. Why should parents accept the status quo of failing schools for their children.
The debate continues around why throwing money at education systems has not produced success. This is the driving force behind school choice initiatives putting the power of choice in the hands of parents.

Our failing schools. Enough is enough!
Posted on 08–26–2015
Why, why, why does our education system look so similar to the way it did 50 years ago? Millions of students were failing then, as they are now — and it’s because we’re clinging to a business model that clearly doesn’t work!!

Understanding Value of Private School
Posted on 08–25–2015 | Michael Thompson Ph.D
At Kids R Kids on Serene we have been offering a Private Elementary school experience for children for the past 13 years. We now offer Private Kindergarten and First Grade and recently was approved to offer Second Grade as well.
With the new Nevada State Educational Savings Accounts parents can choose to send their child to a private school with tuition fees paid by the State of Nevada.
Parents need to become informed about the private school movement, come to understand the elements that make their schools different, and obtain tools to evaluate why you might choose Kids R Kids on Serene for your child.
We would like to begin a dialogue with parents to help you explore this very important school choice movement. Let the dialogue begin.
